Preceding the Oscars, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts recognizes excellence in film and television with the BAFTA Award. Widely attended by A-list celebrities, the event is held annually in London and broadcast throughout the world. While there are two award categories that are eligible only for UK films, Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, other awards are not limited by nationality.

The British Academy of Film and Television is a charitable organization which runs a year-round program of educational events in addition to the awards ceremony each year and is supported by a membership of approximately 6,000 people in the film, television, and video game industry.
