BET Awards

Los Angeles

The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The BET Awards were first held at the Paris resort in LAS VEGAS. From 2002 to 2005, the Kodak Theater in Hollywood hosted the ceremonies. For several years, the awards have been held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. In 2013, the event switched venues and has been moved to the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

The BET Awards have paid special commendation to many African American artists throughout the years such as: James Brown, Gladys Knight, Muhammad Ali, Danny Glover, Denzel Washington, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Steve Harvey to name a few. The BET Awards will expand to a 3 day weekend event in June and will include performances from artists such as Beyoncé, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, R. Kelly, and the Jacksons.
