CNN Heroes is a televised special aiming to honor individuals who make extraordinary contributions in their communities. Each year, nominations are announced in the fall and ten recipients are honored. The program originated in 2007 and has been hosted by Anderson Cooper since 2014. Amy Write, and American advocate for disabled people was named the CNN Hero of the year in 2017 for her activism. She employs people with physical and mental disabilities at her coffee shop. She wanted to create a place where those with disabilities could “work and shine.”
