The FIFA World Cup, (also known as the World Cup), is an international association football competition featuring numerous senior men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s global governing body. The FIFA World Cup regularly breaks records as one of the world’s most widely viewed sporting events. An estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany. The World Cup is known as one of the most prestigious football championships in the world and has been awarded every four years since the tournaments were started in 1930. The 20 World Cup Tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil has won five times and is the only country to have represented its country in every tournament since the World Cup’s inception. The other World Cup winners are Italy, Germany, Argentina, and Uruguay. Scheduled FIFA World Cups will be hosted by Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022.
