Attending An Oscars Viewing Party – What To Expect?
Attending an Oscars Viewing Party Is An Experience
In 2017, the Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscar Viewing Parties were (as they always are) chic gatherings attended by guests from the worlds of film, music, business, tech, politics, sports and more.
The parties bring together old and new Hollywood to create an experience that’s nearly impossible to top. The fact that journalists and photographers are banned from the events only adds to the mystique and exclusivity of the night!
The parties erupt with energy as Hollywood’s most famous hash out the most shocking Academy Award moments while sipping the finest champagne and feasting on gourmet eats which are passed out in abundance.
Speaking of Shocking…
Who can forget those few cringe-worthy moments when “La La Land” was named best picture when the real winner was Moonlight? That was a hot topic of heated debate at the Vanity Fair and Elton John parties as you can well imagine! Champagne fueled chatter filled the events as guests rehashed every detail of the Oscars envelope controversy. There was plenty of Beatty-blaming and then finally the realization that the Oscars new two envelope system was ultimately to blame for the major snafu.
There Were Burgers At The 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party!
Servers dressed in In-N-Out uniforms passed out unlimited trays of In-N-Out Burgers to a seemingly endless A-list guest list including Pharrell Williams, Reece Witherspoon, Katie Couric, and Mick Jagger.
Sarah Silverman and Kate Hudson casually hung out on the extravagant outside patio where a sushi and seafood raw bar served up custom-sliced sashimi, crab, oysters and chilled lobster for hungry guests. Guests entered into the sleek venue greeted by a lively mariachi band, which added to the already palpable energy. Over 1,000 guests filed through velvet ropes sporting hip after-party fashions, while modestly toting around posh swag bags.
As the party heated up, Amy Adams tore up the dance floor to Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez’s greatest hits. The sweetest celebrity of the evening was Casey Affleck, who was still holding his best-actor statue at 2 a.m.
Sir Elton Parties With A Purpose
The greatest part about attending one of Elton’s Oscar viewing parties is that all proceeds benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. You can have a great time and feel really good while doing it!
2017 marked the 25th anniversary of the Elton John AIDS Foundation viewing party at West Hollywood Park. The event is the most visible and successful fundraising event on Oscar night.
Elton gave an emotionally charged, yet frank speech reminding the famous and well-connected crowd that the primary purpose of the party was to raise money.
Of course, Elton entertained his guests lavishly, but the real purpose of the annual event is for guests to feel like a part of the organization whose mission is to end the AIDS epidemic by ensuring everyone has the information and means to prevent infection. Countless stars including Adam Lambert, Andie Macdowell, Caitlyn Jenner, Diana Jenkins, Heidi Klum, and Katharine McPhee texted in pledges throughout the evening raising an impressive $7 million!
Chef Gordon Ramsay was the executive chef for the fifth time in 2017. His five-course dinner menu included tuna sashimi, artichoke soup and a choice of filet mignon or sea bass. It concluded with blue cheese and poached pear and a smoked chocolate mousse. Two bars offered beverages inspired by the titles of Oscar-nominated films, such as the “In the Moonlight” (vodka, blueberry juice, pear juice, lemon juice and lavender) and the “On the Fence” (vodka, blueberry juice, and passion fruit).

What To Expect At The 2018 Viewing Parties
You can expect much of the same in 2018. The parties are always high caliber and never disappoint. Plainly speaking, the Vanity Fair and Elton John events are the hottest parties in Hollywood on Oscars night. These legendary parties bring together industry professionals, celebrities, and some of the most influential people in the world.
In truth, it’s hard to understand what all the fuss is about until you actually pass through the doors. Celebrities bounce from party to party, so guests are guaranteed to see a ton of famous faces dressed in after-party looks that are often better than the Oscars red carpet fashions. In 2017, making the rounds were Leonardo DiCaprio, Sam Smith, Chris Rock, Sylvester Stallone, Amy Adams, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Serena Williams, and Matt Damon.
The 2018 Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscar viewing parties will be deliciously fun, unpredictable, and have the biggest stars in one spot.
