Isabela is a town located in north western Puerto Rico. It is marked by San Sebastian to its south, Quebradillas to its east, Moca and Aguadilla to its west. Isabela is the hub of the Aguadilla-Isabela-San Sebastián Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Isabela is fondly dubbed as the “Jardín del Noroeste” which literally means the “Garden of the Northwest”. It is so named because it is home to some wild flowers that grow naturally in its landscape. There is another name for the town, “Pueblo de los Quesitos de Hoja”. It literally means the “town of Leaf Cheeses”. This naming is owing to its production of the fresh white cheese wrapped in banana plant leaves. The third name of Isabela is la Ciudad de los Gallitos, which literally means the “City of the Fighting Cocks”. Owing to the popularity of cock fighting, Isabela had witnessed some pioneering breeding techniques and training methods of cocks.
Isabela comprises of the barrios, Arenales Altos, Arenales Bajos, Bajuras, Bejucos, Coto, Galateo Alto, Galateo Bajo, Guayabos, Guerrero, Isabela Pueblo, Jobos, Llanadas, Mora and Planas.
