Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics is an international competition held every 4 years in cities around the world. The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea. The 2018 Games will include 102 medal events across 15 sports. New disciplines for this year will include Big Air Snowboarding, Mixed Doubles Curling, Mass Start Speed Skating, and Mixed Team Alpine Skiing. This will be the first time that the Winter Olympics have been held in South Korea; the Summer Olympics were held in Seoul in 1988.

Athletes from at least 84 countries have qualified for the Olympic Games and will represent their respective countries. Athletes from Eritrea, Kosovo and Malaysia are set to compete in the Winter Olympics for the first time. In the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia led the medal count with 33 medals including 13 gold medals. The United States finished second with 28 overall medals and 9 gold.
