Gulf Cooperation Council
Gulf Cooperation Council, which is currently known as Cooperation Council for the Arab states of the Gulf. It consists of six Gulf States as the union members. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are the members. It was established with an aim to upgrade the political, economic, social, cultural and environmental situation with a hope to achieve unity among the member states. Although, it was founded in 25th May 1981, in Abu Dhabi, it was officially inaugurated on 11th November, 1981, after the unified economic agreement was signed. Its headquarters is located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These states are also known as the GCC states. Recently, there has been discussion going on about adding Jordan, Morocco and Yemen as the fellow members of CCASG in the future. The present Secretary General of CCASG is Mr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. He is the fifth GCC secretary general and first one with military background.
The basic objectives of CCASG is to formulate the similar regulations in the areas of economics, financial affairs, commerce, customs, communications, education, culture, social affair, health, information, tourism and legislative and administrative affairs. The main focus is to deepen and strengthen relationships, to develop effective co-ordination, integration and inter-connection: with an anticipation to achieve unity. Priority is being given to stimulate scientific and technological progress in the field of industry, mining, agriculture, water and animal. It is also encouraging private sectors to work for mutual benefit of all countries.
