Humacao Concierge Services

Humacao is a Puerto Rican municipality. Comprising of ten wards and the downtown area Humacao Pueblo, the municipality of Humacao is in the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. It is marked by Yabucoa in the south, Naguabo in the north, Las Piedras in the west and Vieques Passage in the east. The city is accounted for in the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Humacao is derived from Jumaca which was the Taino region before the formation of the city. The Humacao River also influenced the naming of the city as such.

The region of Humacao has been in use since the settlements in San Juan but the city was formed much later. The area used to serve as cattle ranches which were owned by residents of San Juan. It was only in the first half of the 18th century that settlements shaped up in the region. The earliest residents of Humacao were from Canary Islands. Humacao was officially termed a city in 1894. Since then, the city has thrived with commercial buildings, hospitals, theaters and a prison.

Humacao serves as the gateway to the Atlantic Ocean to the east and also to the two islands, Cayo Batata and Cayo Santiago. While most of the region is coastal plains, there are some elevations which are named as Candelero Hill and Mabú. Humacao spreads across 45 square miles and is also home to the Rivers Humacao, Candelero and Antón Ruíz. It is also home to the creeks Del Obispo, Marianna and Frontera. The barrios of Huamacao are Antón Ruiz, Buena Vista, Candelero Abajo, Candelero Arriba, Cataño, Collores, Humacao Pueblo, Mabú, Mambiche, Mariana, Punta Santiago, Río Abajo and Tejas.

Humacao is a short drive from the capital of Puerto Rico and is also conveniently close to the coast. These factors make the city a popular tourist destination and then there is the Humacao Nature Reserve. The Palmas del Mar resort is a major draw in Humacao. The resort has more than twenty tennis courts, two golf courses, many restaurants and access to beaches.

Some other notable tourist destinations are Punta Santiago, Punta Candelero, Buena Vista and El Morrillo. The Astronomical Observatory in the University of Puerto Rico Guzman Ermit, Casa Roig, the Church Dulce Nombre de Jesus and the Wildlife Refuge are the other landmarks in the city.
